Literacy on the Lawn

Literacy on the Lawn

Coming September 24th, 2024!

The Bad Seed

On September 24th, 2024, we will be reading The Bad Seed, written by Jory John and illustrated by Pete Oswald! This version of Literacy on the Lawn incorporates agricultural themes, helping students understand that kindness is like growing a garden: it takes effort, but with care and attention, it can flourish and create something beautiful!

Bringing the Love of Literacy to Local Children

Readings and activities will be held around campus, and will include over 300 Kindergartens from around the Blue Mountain area!

The Seed of Kindness

Because The Bad Seed is about a seed, tying the activity into an agricultural theme makes perfect sense and enhances students’ understanding of both kindness and plant growth. Here’s a modified version of the Seed of Kindness Stations that integrates agriculture:

  1. Planting Kindness Seeds Station
  2. Watering with Kindness Station
  3. Harvesting Good Deeds Station
  4. Caring for Our Garden Station
  5. Kindness in the Sunlight Station
